SS15 Trends
To cheer us all up in the depths of January, I thought it would be good to have a peek at the key Spring / Summer trends that will be hitting the shops very soon. This also gives you plenty of time to think about which trends you might try. I’ve picked my favourites that I think will be easy to wear for most of us mortals!
1. Nautical
Has this look ever not been in fashion? If you’re looking to invest in some key pieces this season, the nautical trend is a good one to pick because it is so timeless. Choose from stripes to simple colours with sailor-influenced piping, the emphasis is on playfulness this season. Feel free to double stripe too! We’ve got stripes from Fever and a very playful nod to nautical with this dress by Kling.
2. 70s vibe
The 70s influence is everywhere next season from the fabrics used (denim, leather, courduroy, & suede) to flared trousers to bohemian styling. Feel free to just nod to the decade if dressing top to toe isn’t your thing!
Loved the Gucci catwalk where the 70s’ influence was everywhere– have a read of Styloko’s website for the full collection. This is one of my faves – wear together or as separates.
3. Geometric pattern
Think circles, triangles and squares in bold colours! A more interesting take on pattern than the usual stripe, check or polka dot. Again, this is a trend that you can just nod towards. Geometric shapes can create a different silhouette so could be a great way to showcase your assets or disguise areas you’re not so keen on. We’re looking forward to a couple of Skunkfunk items that fit the bill nicely!
In the meantime, this Roksanda Ilincic dress (thanks Getty Images) is brilliant and would amazing on a pear shape because the skirt would skim the hips whilst the colour pop at the waist draws the eye in and the clever shape at the neckline create the illusion of wider shoulders to balance the hip. TBH, the whole collection looked COOL.
4. Bold colour
This season’s colour palette is bold, neutral or monochrome. Something for everyone then! Try wearing the bold colour head to toe if you want to be really on trend. Remember to be considerate of your shape and colouring when doing this so the clothes don’t dominate you. If the thought of bold colours scares you, try it out with a scarf, necklace or handbag.
I’m pleased to say that colour will be featuring in the collections we’re getting in and we’ll be delighted to help you find something that is right for you.
5. Denim
Much like nautical, I can’t think of a time when denim wasn’t in. This season, it’s been used in everything from boots to cocktail dresses. Definitely try to get yourself a denim dress for SS15 as we’re confident you’ll wear it a lot. Remember to find one that suits your body shape and style personality.
6. Shirts – super sized
White, simple and over-sized. ‘nuff said! I’ve a fabulous one due in from Skunkfunk (even comes in black if white isn’t your thing). Think of the silhouette you’re creating when you wear these shapes so be careful about lengths and widths of tops and bottoms.
7. Gingham
We all love a check and it’s nice to see gingham making a return this season. You can wear it in many ways – sexy, a hark back to a school uniform or very girly. Be careful to get the size of check in proportion to your body to make sure it looks great.
8. Trousers & trouser suits
All shapes and styles of trousers are in which is fantastic as we all suit different styles and types. Trouser suits are heavily influenced from menswear. Why not combine this trend and one of the others? Love these trousers by Preen By Thornton Bgregazzi (thanks Getty)
We’ve got a few styles coming in over the Spring / Summer season from wide-leg floaties to carrot-shaped with a fab geometric shape.
More on-trend tips:
- If floral is your thing, the hottest colour to choose is red! Everyone can wear red to so remember to find the shade that flatters you. Oh, and don’t forget to pick a pattern that’s in proportion to you.
- Embrace an asymmetric hemline or neckline.
- Embellished pieces are hot – from embroidery to patchwork to cut-out leather! Invest in one item for special occasions to make an impact.
