Fashion Fix Friday
Fashion Fix Friday, 7th February edition
Cool tones or warm tones?
Determining what skin tone you have will help you buy clothes and accessories in colours that are more likely to suit you.
When you wear colours that suit you, your skin, hair and eyes will absorb the colour making you sparkle! If you wear colours that don’t suit you, they’ll reflect off you and will deaden your appearance.
How to find out your tone
Look at your wrists, facing up, under direct sunlight. If the veins look greenish then you have warm tone skin. If the veins are bluish, then you’re a cool tone.
If this doesn’t work, hold a piece of white paper next to cleansed skin. If your skin looks yellow or golden in contrast to the white paper then you have warm tones. If your skin looks pinkish then you have cool tones.
What colours to wear
It’s best to start with colours that will work all year round, this will give you versatility. Yes, red can be worn by all skin tones, just make sure you find a shade that brings your skin to life.
Cool tones – black, navy, cherry red, cream, purple, medium grey, royal blue and taupe
Warm tones – beige, olive, cream, purple, camel, cocoa, khaki, tomato red
Remember to consider the intensity of the colours that suit your skin tone, you may find vivid colours overpower you or pale colours wash you out. If this is the case, find garments that are lighter or darker shades of the same colour – think of paint colour cards!
Finally
This is a guide to what may work for you. The best way to figure out what looks good is to hold different colours to your skin and look to see if they work for or against you.
Top tip – wearing colours that match your eye colour next to your face makes people focus on your face. A fab distraction technique!
